Motion Junction officially opened to the public two years ago in June 2022 at Richard P. Outhouse Memorial Park in Canandaigua. A completely accessible and inclusive playground that everyone can play on, regardless of their level of ability or mobility. The playground in its entirety is setup to facilitate play between multiple generations and abilities. It's a soft surface playground built in cooperation with Dream Big! Motion Junction by Inclusion in Motion a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing a place in our community where ALL children, no matter their abilities, can play together.

However, the work wasn’t done just yet. Part of the big dream that made this remarkable playground a reality was to design it and all its parts with inclusion in mind – to truly be a place for all.

On June 5, 2024, Inclusion in Motion celebrated with the Canandaigua community as Motion Junction officially became the first universally designed and certified playground in the country. This represents the conclusion of the third and final phase of the dream that grew from one local family into a community of caring.

Phase III of the project – which was necessary to receive the certification – included construction of the pavilion, four universally designed family bathrooms, a mindfulness pathway, family picnic area, and more. A collection of local organizations helped bring the project across the finish line. Canandaigua National Bank & Trust was among the organizations to support the project financially, providing necessary funds to ensure the work would get done.

Motion Junction playground is located at Richard P. Outhouse Memorial Park in Canandaigua.
